International Expert Panel Visited EQAR for an External Evaluation
European Register Now Lists 27 Quality Assurance Agencies

Brussels. An international expert panel conducted a site visit to Brussels from 12 to 14 May as part of the external evaluation of the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). The evaluation panel interviewed a range of external stakeholders as well as members, committees and staff of EQAR.

“The external evaluation has been an important and valuable exercise for us”, says Andrea Blättler, President of the EQAR Executive Board. “Our self-evaluation process allowed us to reflect on our work and assess the impact of the Register, with a view to further developing EQAR. I am looking forward to reading the report by the external expert panel and to discussing the follow-up together with all EQAR members and committees.”

The external evaluation report will set out the panel’s findings and make recommendations for EQAR’s development. The external evaluation report, together with a follow-up and implementation plan, will be published in time for the 2012 Bologna Ministerial Conference in Bucharest.

Parallel to the site visit the EQAR Register Committee convened for a meeting on 13/14 May and admitted three agencies to the Register:

AERES – Evaluation Agency for Research and Higher Education (France)
EVA – Danish Evaluation Institute (Denmark)
QANU – Quality Assurance Netherlands Universities (the Netherlands)

The Register includes agencies that substantially comply with common principles for quality assurance of higher education in Europe. These principles are laid down in the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ESG). The Register now includes 27 quality assurance agencies working in 25 European countries.
